The Book Thief And Erik Larson - 1639 Words
Merriam Webster defines perspective as ââ¬Å"the capacity to view things in their true relations or relative importance. Dr. Zoltan Takacs, a herpetologist (one that studies reptiles and amphibians) and toxinologist (one that studies toxins) has gone to 147 countries to study snakes and the toxins in their venom. In a National Geographic video, he is asked if he is a risk taker and he repliedâ⬠he likes his life and donââ¬â¢t want to die but his work includes a calculated risk. But having the driving force, the knowledge, and the tools can keep the risk minimalâ⬠. Many donââ¬â¢t know that Takacs has been bitten seven times but is also allergic to the snake venom and the antivenin itself. It is all about perspective to how you view life. Markus Zusak, author of the Book Thief and Erik Larson, author of The Devil in the White City use perspective to show how people can personify an identity, treatment of others and never change regardless of time. In light of using per spective to identify, we see people in the Book Thief and The Devil in the White City that have a positive and negative attitude towards life because of events. In chapter the grave diggerââ¬â¢s handbook Death narrates ââ¬Å"The book thief and her brother were traveling down toward Munich, where they would be given over to foster parents. We now know, of course the boy didnââ¬â¢t make itâ⬠. Leisel Meminger is the main protagonist of the Book Thief, Death informs us that her brother Werner is dead and she is going off to live with a foster
Leadership Insights about Leadership
Question: Examine yourself as a leader. Share some insights about leadership that you have identified about yourself. Answer: Leadership This paper examines and reflects my insights on leadership. The reflection is based on the way I view myself as a leader. Over the last few weeks I put emphasis on several aspects such as purpose of leadership and traits possessed by a successful leader. The data collected from peer interactions and secondary sources over time provided insights about my leadership. When I see someone as a leader, I wish to be like him or her. Through my experience, leadership is a continuous process for me. The leaders face different situations in life and their act accordingly. The leaders possess several character traits that are essential for effective management. I have developed traits such as creating vision, problem solving skills, interactive skills, conflict management, and many more (Kouzes Posner, 2013). However, I need to improve my team building skills by assigning appropriate work to the members. I have learned many things about leadership in my lectures and personal experience. I have developed propensity to take control of situations. I prefer to take an organized approach to solve problems. I prefer to interact with others and collaborate using different perspectives (Johansen, 2012). I possess assertiveness that allows me to be positive and direct with the individuals. Every organization needs to be interconnected so that they can anticipate problems, frame plans and execute them as and when required. My peers told me that I am very comfortable to talk with and they can discuss their problems with me. I am keen to solve issues after critically analysing the situation (Yukl, 2013). I consider multiple perspectives before arriving at a decision. Additionally, I am detail oriented and can be critical of others work. I have set high standards for myself as well as team members. I prefer working beyond my comfort zone. I take criticism constructively although I need to put efforts to make rectifications based on others judgments (Kouzes Posner, 2013). I aspire to strive, continually improve and never quit. The fundamentals as a leader are in place. My focus shall be on tuning and enhancing my leadership skills. I shall develop my critically analysing skills. I welcome feedback and learning experiences from everyone. I have a desire to maintain equilibrium and consistency as a leader (Kouzes Posner, 2013). Going through the leadership theories and models, I aspire to become a transformative leader. I intend to increase self-awareness and attempt to shape them. I shall empower others by encouragement, cultivating vision and providing right tools. My willingness to adapt, grow and improve shall help me in leading others (Giuliani Kurson, 2012). Conclusively, leadership strengths and weaknesses are evident after conducting self-evaluation. The reflection in the above paper shall help me in growing personally as well as professionally. As a leader, I am constantly growing as the one I envision in the future. I shall develop realistic and measurable action plan for accomplishing my future leadership goals. References Giuliani, R. The Issue of the Free Will
Many philosophers argue the issue of the free will and there is no particular opinion about the circumstances which guide people in their decisions. Defining hard determinism, it should be stated that this notion is connected with both determinism and the impossibility of the free will. Thus, hard determinism should be viewed as the item which rejects free will and supports the idea that all the choices are made only under the impact of the particular circumstances and ca never occur without their presence.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Issue of the Free Will specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Hard determinism is opposed to incompatibilism which supports the idea that the universe is at odds and people can make choices of their own as they want, in other words incompatibilism support the idea of free will. Therefore, there are two specific ideas in the relation to free will, hard determinism and incompatibili sm opposite to each other. The supporters of any have strict arguments as they believe which may be easily ruined by another side. The supporters of the hard determinism have a lot of arguments in the favor of their idea. First of all, it should be mentioned that everything in this world is made for a particular reason and is based on the issue of necessity. Thus, when people make decisions they usually apply to the arguments of the necessity and it does not give them an opportunity to make their choices independent. Furthermore, the supported of hard determinism are sure that God is aware of all human actions and the choice is already made. People just follow the existing path to achieve their purposes. Additionally, when people make choices they usually base them on something. It may be either their personal decisions or the decisions based on other circumstances which do not depend on them. Basing the choice on the outside circumstances people do not express free will as well as the basis on the personal considerations as in this case people also base their decision on something which may not be an absolute free will. There are several objections to the hard determinism, however, there is one which is hard to contradict. It is possible to give the arguments about the reasons of the choice after the choice has been made. Thus, a person makes a choice and this choice may be free, however, after it, it is possible to analyze the situation, to combine the circumstances and find out that the choice was dependant. This is the common situation which cannot be solved. On the one hand, the opponents of the hard determinism state that free will exists and people do not base their own decisions on anything, however, it is possible to say that the decision was based on nothing, but this is not true.Advertising Looking for essay on philosophy? Trying to contradict this objection, it is possible to refer to Aquinasââ¬â¢s theory based on the based on the possibility and necessity. Aquinasââ¬â¢s theory is based on the following ideas, all the objects may possibly exist and may possibly not exist as well as they are either necessary or not. The issue of the necessity of the things is explained as follows, if things exist they are necessarily based on the necessity for others. If things are not necessary, they do not exist. This theory is the proof that God exists and that God is the entire necessity, but in our case it is possible to take for granted the idea of Godââ¬â¢s existence and in this case we can state that the objection of th e hard determinism is just the failure to accept that there is no another idea except for hard determinism. If ideas exist and the choices are made, they are based on something. It is impossible to construct ideas out of nothing and for nothing. People usually base their decisions and choices on some particular consideration. Thus, they are dependant on these considerations and this is not a free will, this is the dependency. To make sure that the situation is considered in detail, it is important to state an example. Letââ¬â¢s make an assumption that a person wants to go to the cinema. Thus, a persona makes a decision to go to the cinema. Choosing such an entertainment people may say that they are guided by the personal will, however this is not true as people are social being and they need entertainments. Thus, it may be predicted that the choice of going to the cinema is based on the social needs of people they are unable to control. This is not the free will. Therefore, any o bjections to the hard determinism may be contradicted as people are unable to make choices based on free will. A Helpful and Concise Summary of Othello Act 1
A Helpful and Concise Summary of 'Othello' Act 1 Hold tight and delve into William Shakespeares tragedy Othello with this summary of Act 1.à This analysis coversà the entire play, starting from the opening scene in which the prolific playwright wastes no timeà establishing Iagos hatred of Othello. Better understandà this beautifully written dramaà with thisà scene-by-scene guide. Act 1, Scene 1 In Venice Iago and Roderigo discuss Othello. Roderigo immediately addressesà Iagoââ¬â¢s disdain for Othello; ââ¬Å"Thou toldââ¬â¢st me thou didst hold him in thy hate,â⬠he says. Iago complains that instead of employing him as his lieutenant, Othello employed Michael Cassio who has no experience for the job. Iago was employed as a mere ensign to Othello. Roderigo responds; ââ¬Å"By heaven, I rather would have been his hangman.â⬠Iago tells Roderigo that he will stay in Othelloââ¬â¢s service only to exact revenge upon him when the time is right. Iago and Roderigo do not refer to Othello by name in this scene but rather by his race; calling him the moor or the thick lips. The pair plot to inform Brabanzio, Desdemonaââ¬â¢s father, that his daughter has run off with Othello and married him and that he is an unsuitable match, citing his race and impulsivity. The audience discovers that Roderigo is in love with Desdemona, as Brabanzio points out he has already warned him off her; ââ¬Å"In honest plainness thou hast heard me say my daughter is not for thee.â⬠This explains Roderigoââ¬â¢s hatred of Othello. The pair goad Brabanzio, and Iago says, ââ¬Å"I am the one sir, that comes to tell you your daughter and the Moor are now making the beast with two backs.â⬠Brabanzio checks Desdemonaââ¬â¢s room and discovers she is missing. He launches a full-scale search for his daughter and regretfully tells Roderigo that he would prefer him to be his daughters husband and not Othello; ââ¬Å"O would you had had her.â⬠Iago resolves to leave, as he does not want his master to know he has double-crossed him. Brabanzio promises Roderigo that he will reward him for his efforts. ââ¬Å"Oh, good Roderigo. I will deserve your pains,â⬠he says. Act 1, Scene 2 Iago tells Othello that Desdemonaââ¬â¢s father and Roderigo are pursuing him. Iago lies, telling Othello that he challenged them.à ââ¬Å"Nay, but he prated, and spoke such scurvy and provoking terms against your honor that with the little godliness I have, I did full hard forbear him,â⬠he says. Othello answers that his honor and services to the state speak for themselves, and he will convince Brabanzio that he is a good match for his daughter. He tells Iago that he loves Desdemona. Cassio and his officers enter, and Iago tries to convince Othello that it is his enemy, and he should hide. But Othello shows strength of character by staying. ââ¬Å"I must be found. My parts, my title, and my perfect soul shall manifest me rightly,â⬠he says. Cassio explains that the Duke needs to speak to Othello about the conflict in Cyprus. Iago tells Cassio about Othelloââ¬â¢s marriage. Brabanzio arrives with swords drawn. Iago draws his sword on Roderigo knowing that they have the same intention and that Roderigo will not kill him but will collude with the pretense. Brabanzio is angry that Othello has eloped with his daughter and again uses his race to put him down, saying that it is ridiculous to think she turned down wealthy and worthy gentleman to run off with him. ââ¬Å"She shunned the wealthy curled darlings of our nation, â⬠¦tââ¬â¢incur a general mock, run from her guardage to the sooty bosom of such a thing as thou,â⬠he says. Brabanzio also accuses Othello of drugging his daughter. Brabanzio wants to put Othello in prison, but Othello says that the Duke requires his services and will also need to speak to him, so they decide to go to the Duke together to decide Othelloââ¬â¢s fate.

How will you Identify, Cultivate, and Thank the Donors at the School Assignment
How will you Identify, Cultivate, and Thank the Donors at the School - Assignment Example The process of fundraising funnel starts with prospecting (Graecht, 2014). My core strategy would be to build theà prospect list. For instance, I would ask my current donors and Board of Directors for referrals. I would like to inquire if they know any people would want to know more about my cause/organization. The podcast specifically mentions that a non-for profit organization should usually look forward to having individual donors and not expect big organizations to take an interest in my cause. I will try to identify individuals that I can connect with and possibly build a relationship. Even if I do not get direct donors by prospecting, but the prospect that I converse with might probably lead me to a major donor. Before asking for direct referrals, I need to build a stable relationship with my current prospects. And it takes a lot of efforts to strengthen this relationship. Not-for-profit organizations do well with regular donors (Graecht, 2014). One does not need to introduce the cause (pitching) and do the fishing every time to get the donations. A lifelong relationship with regular donors is the best way to fund my project. I would like to hold ââ¬Ënon-ask eventsââ¬â¢ because they are not intimidating. People are more comfortable in coming to and interacting in these events as compared to direct donation events. But as Iââ¬â¢ve already mentioned that the first step is to develop a relationship with a few people. From then onwards I can ask them for referrals or indirectly ask for donations. From the study material, it is clear that hardly anyone gives contribution when directly asked for money (Graecht, 2014). It is a passive strategy, but very effective because the people need to see the cause and the impact that their contributions will make. I would also develop a story for my project.

This people did away with their tribal differences and forged a new culture and history that was acreolization to their pasts and present. This African American developed a culture that was referred to as a black culture. The culture is deeply rooted in Africa. This culture has affected the United States as part or distinct from its culture. It has enormously influenced the American culture as whole. Although slavery restricted the practice of African American culture, their beliefs, values, and practices survived and have blended or modified the white culture (Joanne 64). Within 18th and19th centuries, both white and black Americans worked to stop slavery (Franklin and Higginbotham 285). Many antislavery societies were organized to fight so that slaves could be freed. Main slaveholders considered freeing slaves to disrupt British trade. Most notably, Prince Hall a free slave submitted petitions to end slavery but it was largely ignored. The other challenge of revolution against slavery set in when President Washington stopped recruitment of soldiers into the revolutionary army. The free slaves participated in the revolution against slavery and participated in American revolutionary war. America won the battle against the British rule (Franklin and Higginbotham 327). President Thomas Jefferson referred to slavery as ââ¬Ëabominable crimeââ¬â¢ and declared the independence of slaves yet he was a life long slaveholder. During constitutional convention of 1787, there was declaration of freedom of equality between the blacks and
